International Deaf Disc Golf 2019

Talin Tallaajat organizes International Deaf Disc Golf 2019 -competition in Tali Disc Golf Park in Helsinki. Competition has 84 spots and it is open for all deaf players.

Divisions:

  • Open (MPO)
  • Female Open (FPO)
  • Pro Master 40+ (MP40)
  • Amateur advanced (MA1)

Players in MPO need to have PDGA membership in order to play (membership number will be asked in order to register). In other divisions no memberships of any kind needed.

Competition info, final results, and final ratings will be available also in PDGA site after the competition. 

Registration and competition fee

Registration is open until June 30th. You need to confirm your registration by paying the competition fee via Talin Tallaajat web store. For foreign players we offer an opportunity to pay the competition fee in cash on arrival, in case you can't do the payment in web store. 

Competition fee is 50 euros in all divisions.

Prizes

In all divisions trophies for top 3 players. 

  • In MPO division, top 25% of players get a cash prize according to PDGA charts. Payout percent is 80.
  • In all other divisions product prizes at least for top 3 players. We follow the national guidance from Finnish Disc Golf Association, and value of each product prize can be max. 4 x the competition fee. Payout percent is 80

Schedule 

One round per day, shotgun start. 

Friday July 5th

  • Check-in and paying competition fee between 9-9:30 AM
  • Players meeting at 9:30 AM
  • 1st round, four players per group, mixed groups, tee time at 10:00 AM

Saturday July 6th 

  • Check-in between 9-9:30 AM
  • Sharing scorecards at 9:30 AM
  • 2nd round, four players per group, groups divided based on results and division, tee time at 10:00 AM

Sunday July 7th

  • Check-in between 9-9:30 AM
  • Sharing scorecards at 9:30 AM
  • 3rd round, four players per group, groups divided based on results and division, tee time at 10:00 AM
  • Prize ceremony as soon as the results are verified, after the last group returns their score cards.

Players must inform TD if they leave out from the round/competion or if they have to discontiue their round. Schedule changes are possible. 

Tournament center

Tournament center is located next to Tali Disc Golf Course in Talin huippu (Takkatie 36). There is limited space for parking. There is portable toilet available for players, and some simple snacks and drinks for sale. 

There is also Sello shopping center (Leppävaarankatu 3-9) about 2 km (1.2 miles) from the course, which offers basic food court and supermarket to get basically what ever you need before or after the round. 

Local disc golf candy store (and restrooms) can be found close (~1km/0.6miles) to Tali in Powergrip Helsinki store (Takkatie 18).

Tali Disc Golf Course

IDDG 2019 is playd in Tali Disc Golf Park. 

  • All play at least 3 x 18 holes.
  • If the maximum number (84) of players will register, additional three holes will be used.

Tali Disc Golf Park has some local specialities and rules:

  • Hole #2: Triple mandatory gate on this hole. If a player misses the gate, one stroke penalty applies. Player continues from the marked Drop Zone.
  • Hole #11: If the opening throw is OB, one stroke penalty applies. Player continues from the marked Drop Zone. The standard OB rules apply after the opening throw.
  • Hole #17: There is a special local rule concerning the OB around the green island. The throw from the fairway must stop on the green island, otherwise the player will continue from the fairway, from the place the disc crossed the OB line. One penalty stroke applies. After successfully landing on the green, the normal OB rule is applied on the following throws.

Practice rounds

Tali Disc Golf Park is free for practice all year round. The final grooming of the course will take place during the last week before the competition. You have also a great opportunity to play at Talin Tallaajat weeklies on every Thursday during summer season. During the weeklies, the course is closed for other players.

Weeklies start at 6 PM, and registration opens at 5 PM. 2 euros competition fee per player. Tali weeklies are very popular, so be there on time if you want to play!

Other courses in or close to Helsinki

  • Meilahti, the first disc golf course in Finland, ~5 km from Helsinki city center, 16 holes, course map.
  • Kivikko, ~13 km from Helsinki, 18 holes in the park, some variation in the elevation, course map.
  • Oittaa, ~23 km from Helsinki, 18 holes mostly in the forest, course map.
  • Puolarmaari, ~16 km from Helsinki, 20 holes in the park and forest, very nicely groomed and not too demanding course, course map.

A bit further away but worth to visit

  • Vihti Kaatis, ~55 km from Helsinki, paid course (5 euros per day), extremely well maintained and very challenging course of 20 holes with beautiful views and elevation, both park and forest holes, course map.
  • Vihti Nummelanharju, ~51 km from Helsinki, 18 holes in the forest, some nice elevation, course map.

Even we don't expect PDGA membership from other than Open division players, we all follow official PDGA's rules & competiton manual

Travel and accommodation

Tali Disc Golf Park is located at the border between Helsinki and Espoo. The distance to Helsinki city center is about 11 km (6.8 miles) and to Helsinki Airport about 21 km (13 miles). Helsinki has excellent public transportation system and with the help of HSL's journey planner you can find the best connection. With HSL app you can both check the route and buy the ticket. Helsinki has also extensive taxi network, as well as Über and Taxify.

There is a variety of hotel, hostel and summer hotel choices in Helsinki. Check Hotels.com to find the best choice. Also very reasonably prized rooms can be found by using University of Helsinki Accomodation service.
